Asking the weird questions, problem solving, and surfacing connections.

I'm a UX and product designer with 16 years' experience designing applications for web and mobile, practicing the design studio and sprint methods, and teaching user experience to hungry minds.

Curious by nature, I’ve always wondered about the deep reasons “why” people do the things they do and eventually I started paying attention to the “how”. As a team member or design sprint leader my purpose is to facilitate people along different paths of inquiry or discovery which help them uncover concepts that push the whole project forward.

My research methods vary according to the topic at hand and the audience for which they’re appropriate, pulling from my toolbox as necessary. I collaborate with users, developers, copywriters, designers, and business leaders to ensure the project serves the purpose for the parties involved. One of my joys of working with a team is drawing connections and surfacing the concepts or people that may be lost in the greater wave.

The types of projects I take on have the larger end goal of making janky entrenched systems work more smoothly and humanely. For the past few years my work has focused on the fields of health, education, collaborative making/design, and design thinking.

When not designing products, you can find me haltingly practicing my French, traveling, eating lots of runny cheese and photographing or making art
